Hindu Rashi/ Nakshatra Matching
In South India, Rashi Matching is done to check the Jathagam Porutham of the bride and groom. It is mostly done when the marriages are arranged by the families of the boy and the girl.
What is the meaning of Rasi porutham?
In Hindu astrology Rasi means zodiac sign. In Thirumana porutham(marriage matching) rasi porutham checks for the compatibility of zodiac signs. This matching is very important to lead a peaceful life after marriage.
The rasi of a person is determined by the position of the moon at the time of birth. It is this rasi that determines their character and physical characteristics.
Even though rasi porutham makes use of the same parameters for finding the jathaga porutham, it is to be noted that when just rasi porutham alone is evaluated, certain aspects like the sarpa dosham, chevvai dosham, dasa sandhi, dosha samyam, sastashtaka dosham, ashtasastaka dosham, puthra dosham cannot be calculated. Rasi porutham in Hindu does not indicate knowledge of the lagna. Hence, the above doshams may not be calculated, since all dosha calcualtions are based on the lagna or the ascendant sign in the jathagam.
Rasi porutham represents the following.
1. Unity of the Couple.
2. Possibility of getting a Male child First.
3. Displeasure and Disputes between the Husband and Wife.
4. Unexpected and unnecessary expenditures.
5. problems from children
If both the bridegroom and bride belongs to the same rashi or bridegroom rashi is greater than 6 while counting from bride rasi the match is uthamam.
While counting from bride rashi, if bridegroom rashi comes at 3,4 the match is mathimam.
6th and 8th rashi is sashtamsam and hence won't match
2nd and 5th won't match.
The purpose of rasi porutham is offspring and other important thins in life.
While counting from girl if 3 comes the effect is sorrow, discomfort and suffering.
If 4 comes there will be poverty and struggle.
If 5 comes there will be misfortune and unhappiness in the family.
If 7 comes it will give auspicious results like progress and prosperity in the family.
While counting from groom if brides rasi occurs at 2,6 or 12 the above said ill effect will prevail.
